Walking pads are one of the easier fitness products to import into a smaller or non-mainstream market — and one of the easier ones to get wrong. This guide covers what actually differs when your destination is not a mainstream Western market, written for importers and distributors rather than consumers.
Why walking pads suit emerging and smaller markets
Three practical reasons:
- Storage footprint. A walking pad is short and flat. In markets where apartments are small, that is the difference between a product that fits in a home and one that does not.
- Freight economics. Less volume per unit means more units per container, which lowers your landed cost per piece without needing a cheaper machine.
- Price band. A walking pad sits below a full running treadmill, which matters in markets where the addressable buyer for a premium treadmill is narrow but the buyer for an entry-level walking product is wide.
The models we build are on our walking pads page.
What “configuration for your market” actually means
This phrase gets used loosely. In practice it means five specific decisions, and they have to be made before production, not after:
- Electrical configuration. Voltage, frequency and plug type. Get this wrong and you are holding inventory that cannot legally be sold as it arrives.
- Labelling and manual language. Your market’s importer or distributor will be asked for this at customs and by retailers. Decide the language before artwork is finalised.
- Packing strength. Freight to a smaller market often involves more handling legs and longer transit. Carton grade and internal protection should be specified for that reality, not for a short domestic run.
- Test documentation scope. Confirm which documents your market requires and check that the report covers the exact model and electrical configuration you are importing. Our Certifications & Enterprise Honors page records what we hold; ask us which documents apply to your configuration.
- Spare parts availability. If a control board fails, how long is the customer without a working machine? Ask what spare parts can be supplied separately and include a starter quantity of the parts most likely to fail.
Building a range instead of buying one model
A single SKU makes you dependent on one price point and one buyer profile. A practical first range covers three positions:
- An entry model — the lowest price point you can defend on quality, aimed at winning first-time buyers and testing your market.
- A core model — your volume product, with the features most buyers in your market actually ask for.
- A differentiated model — a 2-in-1 desk configuration, a foldable design, or a model covered by a design patent, so you have something your competitor cannot simply match.
Our 2-in-1 treadmill desks and foldable treadmills are the two families most often used for that third position.
If you are still deciding which product family to lead with, read home treadmill or walking pad: choosing your first import range.
Working with a factory rather than a reseller
Platform resellers and trading companies are easy to find and easy to compare on price. What they cannot usually do is change a specification, supply a spare control board for a unit sold two years ago, or tell you which test report covers your exact configuration — because they are not the people building the machine.
That matters more, not less, in smaller markets, because there is usually no local service network to fall back on. Factory-direct supply with a spare parts path is the difference between a warranty claim and a lost customer.
How to tell the two apart is covered in how to verify a treadmill supplier in China.
What to send us
For an accurate walking pad quotation we need your destination country, the models you are considering, your estimated quantity, your branding requirements and your packing needs. Tell us the destination up front — configuration decisions cannot be reversed once production starts.
KREEDA is the treadmill brand of Ningbo Kangruida Sports Equipment Co., Ltd. We run OEM and ODM programs for walking pads; see OEM & ODM treadmill manufacturing for how that works.
